The Primer Nationals Car Show

It was time to do something cool for the labor day weekend and every year I try and make it to The Primer Nationals car show at the Ventura county fairgrounds,
The show is for a type of hot rod...... one that isn't original
Something that has been chopped or customized
Sometimes we call these cars rat rods and most of these cars or trucks are really old
they also have a lot of Bobber choppers at this show too
It's a low brow extravaganza ....tons of vendors
and just about every form of human from the Kustom Kulture
With slammin rock a billy and surf bands playing one right after another.
This is the sixth year they have done this
and every year it gets bigger and more popular and I would have to say it's my favorite car show to go to now on the west coast

Sometimes you will see girls pose for photographers
So I'll get in on taking a picture too, a lot of interesting looking people come to this show

This old knuckle head chopper had some wild metal work on it,
some very intricate welds and metal twists

I liked the coffin air cleaner cover on this motor kinda Mexican day of the dead motif

Or the art deco look of this grill

This old 1940's milk truck was one of my favorite things that I saw
Some photographer fixed it up for his equipment

Some dude next to his led sled

Or car club Betty's all under their umbrellas

A couple of cool bobbers

I dug this old Indian from the police in La Paz Mexico

Here's the back fender of it....lol Johnny Cash fan

Somebody put this giant drag racing engine into this 1961 Caddy......lol a bit of overkill
Photobucket
And finally a mid fifties Caddy death wagon

So that's a few of the pic's I took at the show,
On Monday I went and rode three hundred miles on my Harley
I went up the coast and into the mountains and then back again
I took this photo of the Ventura Peir as the sun was setting over the Pacific ocean

All in all a great weekend full of interesting things and some good riding through the back side of Santa Barbara.
That's the great thing about California such a great variety of things and terrain to experience
All you have to do is point yourself in a direction and something cool will come your way

  1. It's a car show with a ton of life going on. When you're able to customize a car, you basically have free reign to make your own style to make that car yours in more ways than one. The results, especially the ones in car shows like that, are often very appealing.

    1. Let me add something, it also shows your true personality, with the type of design that your car has. For example, a combination of orange and green shades for a car, shows that the driver is outgoing and fashionable.

  2. It’s just amazing how these car enthusiasts were able to restore these vintage cars and turn them into awesome hotrods, worthy to be called kings of the road! Seeing these people and the amazing rides they have restored must have been quite an experience! Seeing all these vintage cars together in a single place must be a bit nostalgic too!

  3. Restoring vintage cars is good because we get to preserve pieces which have been part of history. Conventions like this are also a good opportunity to see the latest trends in automobile customization. People who are interested in vintage cars and hotrods will surely enjoy being in this event because, aside from the fun it brings, you can always pick up a thing or two from the car owners themselves.

  4. That blue Chevy is an example of a hot old-school vehicle. Look at the hood! The way it operates is just a thing of beauty! I think that mechanism can still be applied in today’s cars. That way, motorists will find it easy to open and close the hood whenever they’ll check or fix it.

  5. Yeah, these rides are oldies, but they're surely goodies! What makes a car show remarkable is the wide array of personalities presented in the event. It's so nice that you get to attend this spectacular car show every year! :D

  6. Ah, vintage cars and pretty women in one place. Can that day be anymore awesome? LOL! I like how creatively you took your pictures. It truly brings out the colors and the amazing designs of those vintage cars. Nice job!

  7. Wow. I can tell that this is such a wonderful and successful event! “…a lot of interesting looking people come to this show”-- This is true. When I attend car shows, it gives me the opportunity to meet new people and learn great things that I didn’t know before, making friends with different owners and enthusiasts, and ask for some classic car maintenance tips.
